mind's ear

The phrase "mind's ear" refers to the ability of our mind to internally perceive or imagine sounds or voices, even in the absence of actual auditory stimuli. In other words, it is the cognitive process of mentally hearing or "listening" to sounds, music, or voices within our minds. It is similar to the concept of visual imagination, where we can mentally see or visualize images in our "mind's eye." The mind's ear allows us to remember, imagine, or recreate sounds and noises, whether they be familiar or new.
