Rest on your laurels

The phrase "rest on your laurels" means to be complacent or satisfied with one's past accomplishments, and to be unwilling to make further efforts or improvements. It refers to the ancient practice of awarding laurel wreaths to victorious athletes in Greece and Rome, who were then expected to continue striving for success rather than becoming stagnant or relying solely on their previous achievements.
