A "shell game" refers to a deceptive gambling or magic trick where an operator hides a small ball or object under one of three or more identical cups or shells, and then rapidly shuffles them around on a flat surface. The objective is to encourage participants to bet on which cup the ball is under, while the operator manipulates the cups to confuse and mislead them.
